Monday Agenda
8:00-9:00 Introductions
Welcome to Create a Classroom Website Workshop. I am Cassie Hosler, your instructor for the course. During the next few hours, we will be developing the background information needed to understand what makes a quality classroom website. As we brainstorm and gather our ideas today, you may want to ponder any images and files you would like to link or add to your website, so you gather them and bring them to the workshop during the next few days.
Mingle with the room. While meeting your peers, complete this scavenger hunt form.
What did we notice about the answers to the questions at various levels on the scavenger hunt? Did the educational levels all provide the same requirements for a a classroom website?
9:00-11:00 What makes a good website?
Turn to the people sitting on either side of you. Ask them what makes a good website? Find three, educational K-12 classroom websites online (not from your own district), which you consider to be good quality. Find two examples of weak classroom websites and note what makes them poor quality. We will post these sites tomorrow so everyone may view them. Here are a few things to think about when evaluating a website:
Discuss article: Evaluating the importance of common components in school-based websites: Frequency of appearance and stakeholders'judged value. Techtrends: Linking research & practice to improve learning. (Miller et al, 2005)
Key points for website building:
Take a look at the resources for this workshop too for additional articles and helpful websites.
12:00-2:00 Regroup
Regroup and sit according to your content area level: elementary, middle, or high school.
Brainstorm with your group ideas for links and necessities in your level websites.
Begin individualized brainstorm activity for your classroom website using the brainstorm sheet below.
2:00 Question and Answers; Evaluation
Please complete this exit slip before you leave today.
